Browse MapsSeveral weeks of coding on MozWho have payed off, along with the amazing dhtml drawing library from Walter Zorn.
Below is a "browse-map" of a web browser session revealing the interconnections in visited sites. We have good reason to believe that user's "go back" frequently, as pictured below. It's my supposition that a map such as this would provide a better reinstatement of context than even a hiearchical back button.
There's lots of polish left, but the general layout technique is sound. I use a spiral algorithm to minimize screen real estate while also supporting the reading of sequence. Optimizing the layout is a bit tricky and very much a work in progress. Color coding will help the perception of the sequence, but realize that the history is ordered in a clockwise spiral from center.
