CFP: Zoe & Mail Filtering -- Replacing the useless startup screen in MozMail
I have recently moved from Outlook to Mozilla Mail and am generally happy. However, much like Outlook, the filtering process fails miserably on the usability guideline of "Inform the user of system status".The user need is to know which rules have been recently run and to get a preview of active threads in messages filtered directly to subfolders. The start page, accessed by clicking on an account, would be a great place to provide information about recent inbound activity.
A related opportunity is a Zoe like approach to rendering mail in an HTML portal design, allowing easy crosslinking among threads and authors and amore fluent search. I've hacked together a better formatted filter-report, but have notyet succeeded at linking it to mail preview (email for the source). The technical challenges of accessing the mail database are also significant, as it seems to differ from other RDF stores in significant ways ?
