One of the more accessible of many Frode Hegland nodes discovered this evening "
SuperFolders".
The general idea is to surface filtering operations on folders though
this is done with select lists (drop down menus), a generally
too-clunky UI widget.
I seem to recall some serious surfacing of filters for folder views in Longhorn as well (
link neighborhood).
