RSS & Events

With the recent launch of upcoming.org, the blogdom is reconsidering event information in rss and syndication.

I run an event calendar for my favorite live music venue in Atlanta, and as a starter have created a first generation RSS calender, augmented with mod_event entries.

Now, how to extend this to a more robust format?  Key requirements:
  • machine readable dates
  • machine readable location
    • geoURL?
  • integration with user calendars
  • query-able?  you might want to check events for a time period in the future in which you'll be visiting a locale
    • for instance, upcoming.org was a bit awkward to use to try and find interesting events for my upcoming visit to Denver (Oct 12) for the Human Factors & Ergonomic Soc conference
Format contenders:
From a practical perspective, .ics seems like the way to most flexibly allow RedLight Cafe patrons to integrate the music schedule in their clients -- as it works in Moz and OS X.

The xml-ization of .ics seems stalled alas, but ICS still seems like the highest payoff format for the RLC.
