Mozilla-space updatesKeeping busy with thesis and Uzilla work, but there are a number of notable updates in Mozilla land and I'm getting friendly with the new "birds".
- Gestures for FireBird: Jens has ironed out the preference issues with Firebird, so go get it.
- Neil has written a nice primer on RDF.
- WAIzilla is a tool in development for accessibility testing, now hosted at mozdev. Not much progress yet, but a nice kick off last week by Zeldman.
- NewsMonster is one impressive piece of work. Quite a compelling demo of the XPFE toolkit, even is some of heavy lifting is java (?). The pro version is free for a short time (tho broken in 1.5rc2)
Foundation considers forcing changes in add-on project names and fan
web site designs as a part of trademark defense, call for comments 1 & 2.
My experiences with T-bird 0.3 have been pleasant. I happily discovered the three column layout today -- with my wide laptop screen, this is a preferable mode though it degrades poorly as the screen size shrinks. Perhaps I should write a little hook to switch modes on resize?
The biggest annoyance is the inability to render mail folders while new mail is being downloaded. Not only is clicking on a folder as new mail arrives a distracting user error, recovery from it requires selecting a different folder, and then re-selecting the freshly updated one - filed bug 220861.
While I was in bugzilla, I looked for a call for a better account startpage, and not finding one, put my intertwingular ideas into bug 220863, [RFE] Useful mail start page.
