Blogdom

I've been enjoying the blogosphere of late with shallow coverage with my newsable subscription and deeper access in forumzilla.  The feedster keyword queries are much more interesting as 100s of archived messages build up.  Newsmonster full post archival never stroke me as apt, but header archival is dandy.

Some highlights:
  • PVD calls for help, HTML doesn't support latticed tagging.  One answer is DOM Text Ranges, but I'm not sure how to persist these.  There's a workshop on related issues, versioning approaches for hypertext, at ACM Hypertext '04 in Santa Cruz.
  • KMS calls attention to blog post relationship typing with a information content facet, seeking vs sharing and a response type adding information. Things get a bit more tangled as you explore the othere types of responses.
  • Macromedia's JD calling Sun's 3d Looking Desk ui porn. I agree in the sense that it's UI more in line with the actual human brain.  There's some serious mileage to be gotten out of capitalizing on human's capabilities for depth perception and reasoning as well hard wired skills perceptual skills (e.g. gibson's constants - think your ability to steer at night).  We're not there yet.
  • Hixie burying some very noteworthy plans for a W3C proposal for Web Applications in which he calls for standards for data grids, command updating, native popup menus, and remote eventing inside something entirely else.
  • The Flex announcement.  Nice to see some large scale acknowledgement of the approaches to the tag based UI approach and the important of text and VCS in development.
