Context: Getting Beyond the News (CONTENTIOUS, Nov. 22, 1999) details the dream of news on the web, anchored in on demand information about the past context. What would such a system be able to offer for preparing or acting on the future of news events? The answer is obvious in the case of local disasters, conceivable for other events, and beyond me for yet others.

Future is a remarkably Windows like DHTML wui. Developer API coming. (link via evhead). I can imagine really neat interfaces combining familar GUI elements with new dynamic interfaces.

Traffick's critique of internet potal interfaces is one of several feature stories on portal HCI, though apparently aimed at consumers. Moreover offers portal industry news, and CNET has a dedicated area for builders.
