Announcing, cruise control for the web. Try it (best in IE, but won't choke on netscrape) with a web-graphics search on site maps (new design in beta) or a local search on annotation. You'll have to select the cruise control link, at which point windows will be rearranged and you'll be treated to a slideshow of the result set.

Slashdotted: Screen wide ads: the Wide Skyscraper (160 x 600 pixels).
Funny, I can imagine Google doing this full screen width.

Google's deja interface is shaping up interestingly... They've chosen to display threads entirely in a single page with anchors for direct linking, as shown here in a discussion of the 10% of brain meme. This design would have been suprising from any other outfit, given the more pages = more ads equation (see Rapid Navigation in Online Documents for more on the merits of long pages).
I'm beginning to see lots of advantages to Google hosting newsgroups. Web monitoring tools can notify you of a new response in a thread, search interfaces can be built which improve on the interface based on the semi-open url pattern, and bookmarks work! (as well as power surf drag and drop techniques).
