Memes.net calls systems which circumvent the limitations of strict hierarchies intertwingular. My approach to this in the psybersearch redesign, somewhat constrained by implementation challenges, is to link points in multiple hierarchies. While a shallow approach, it should provide a superior browsing/searching experience.

SURL chalks one up for traditional hypertext, finding that users favored embedded links in an essay as opposed to a list at the bottom or side in Where Should You Put the Links? A Comparison of Four Locations.

Arggh, I've been reading Rushkoff's "Exit Strategy" and suffering through the YiL page template's distractions. For an open source novel, the presentation is awful commerical. Today, the publish date for the next chapter, the server is returning the wonderful ASP error string: "Server object error 'ASP 0228 : 80004005' Server.Execute Error /features/feature.asp, line 66 The call to Server.Execute failed while loading the page."

I'm sure it will be back (note, it is now, they were apparently updating the navigation). It's an interesting experiment in collaborative annotation, if a bit under-annotated to date.

Fun with hierarchies here. Theres a new, more robust category system in the works which distills the top level categories to: AI, CMC, CogSci, CS, Cyber, HCI, HyperMedia, Web.

In the meantime, I've also discovered it's much easier to parse IE Favorites than Netcape with Cold Fusion, so here's a recent slice of my bookmarks on web development.
